Jack B. Berkow
Jack B. Berkow was admitted to the Bar of Ontario in 1975. He holds an LL.B degree (1973) from Osgoode Hall Law School. He is certified by The Law Society of Upper Canada as a specialist in Civil Litigation as well as certified as a specialist in Construction Litigation, and Harvard certified in Alternative Dispute Resolution. His practice focuses on all aspects of land-based disputes and has a myriad of interests including owners, developers, purchasers, vendors, mortgages, joint venture participants, occupants, lessors and lessees.
He has also acted as Arbitrator and Mediator on numerous occasions and has been involved in the resolution of many complex construction, real estate and condominium-related disputes.
Mr. Berkow is a former instructor in the Bar Admission Course administered by the Law Society of Upper Canada. He is a former executive member of the Canadian Bar Association; a member of the Metropolitan Toronto Lawyers Association; the Advocates Society and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Berkow is also a former Chairman of the Construction Lien Section, Canadian Bar Association of Ontario.
He is the author of numerous articles on commercial litigation and construction liens. Mr. Berkow's publications include being co-author of Frank Bennett's Handbook on Power of Sale. Most recent lectures include Annual Update on Construction Law delivered to the Canadian Bar Association-Ontario; Sole Source Tender Contracts delivered to The Canadian Institute; Commercial Landlords' Remedies also delivered to The Canadian Institute, Achieving Successful Resolutions in Arbitration and Mediation of Construction Defect Cases delivered to Federated Press. He is a senior partner of Berkow, Cohen LLP, a ten-person boutique litigation firm specializing in construction and real property litigation.
